Up Up and Away!

As I am now in the final hours before leaving for the airport, I thought I would take the time to provide a few more precious details for you all about my trip. Tomorrow morning, our flight is set to leave at 5:55 am. From Minneapolis we'll fly to Denver, CO. After spending a few hours near the mountains, we'll fly out to Tokyo, Japan. Hopefully, I'll have a fun-filled thirteen hours of reading on my nook, watching whatever movie they play on the plane, and perhaps trying to sleep for a minute or two. After Tokyo, we are set to fly into Bangkok. I'm very excited for this plane ride, actually, for the simple fact that it is a two story plane... I didn't even know things like this existed! It's amazing how something SO BIG can fly... After our eight hour flight to Bangkok, we'll then take a short one hour flight to Udon Thani. Our professor Denny and our host moms' will be there to pick us up!

My host mom, Arunrat Bamrungchit, lives in a white house in Udon Thani. She lives there with a roommate (I was introduced to her as Aunty.. I'm not sure if she's really an aunt or simply a "close as family" friend- I'll keep you posted) and her three dogs (Nova, Mama, and Tam). I'm very very excited, and I cannot wait for my journey to finally begin!

Mark is still jokingly attempting to scare me off by showing pictures of the giant Thailand bugs, but nothing will stop me now!

Talk to you on the other side of the world!

xoxo Kenzkeg

p.s. below is a picture of "my" house for the next two months!

14 Days Till Takeoff!

As finals and the Holiday season are upon us, I am not only preparing for the end of my final semester here at SMSU, but for the trip of a lifetime as well. As everyone hangs up their stockings, decorates their trees, and shop for last minute gifts, the stress of flying on a plane by myself looms over like Eeyore’s raincloud.

For those of you that do not know about my trip, here is the basic outline:

I will be in Thailand, specifically Udon Thani, for two months (Dec. 31-Feb.25). I am going with my fellow SMSU classmate and friend, Ari Anderson. We will be staying with host families that work either at the school we are teaching at or the university we are going through. We will be teaching English in a K-12 school in Udon Thani, as well as giving presentations to the teachers in the school on how to teach English.
